Home Blood Test Prices and What’s Included
Some providers charge a separate nurse or home-visit fee on top of the test. For our private tests in the standard Essex area, the home visit is already in the price.
| Service | Price | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| Private blood test with home visit | Price on each test page | A home blood draw by a phlebotomist, laboratory analysis and your results. The home visit fee is included within our standard Essex area. |
| Home blood draw for a GP or hospital form | £40 per visit | Taking, labelling and packaging your sample, then delivering it to the laboratory named on your form. No private tests are included. |
| Kit Only | Price on each test page | The test kit only. No appointment is included, but a home visit can be arranged for an additional fee. |
If several samples are needed at one visit, they’re charged at the single appointment rate. A travel surcharge may apply outside our standard coverage area, so call before booking if you’re unsure.
Phlebotomist Home Visit or Finger-Prick Kit?
The NHS guide to blood tests explains that blood is usually taken from the inside of your elbow with a needle by a healthcare professional, although some tests use a finger-prick sample instead.
| Phlebotomist home visit | Finger-prick postal kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Who takes the sample | A trained phlebotomist | You, using a lancet |
| Type of sample | Venous blood from your arm | Capillary blood from your fingertip |
| Getting it to the laboratory | We label it and send it to the laboratory | You package it and post it back |
The right option depends on the test and the sample it needs. Our kit option is a venous collection kit, so a trained professional still takes the sample.
Preparing for Your Home Blood Test
- Check the preparation guidance on your test page. Some tests need fasting, which means no food or drink except water. Others need a particular time of day, such as our 9am cortisol test.
- With a GP or hospital form, follow the instructions from the person who requested your test. The NHS advises that your GP, nurse or specialist should tell you how to prepare.
- Keep taking prescribed medicines unless the doctor who requested your test tells you otherwise. Let us know about any medicines or supplements you take.
- Unless you’ve been told not to, drink some water beforehand. It can make the sample easier to take.
- Wear sleeves that roll up easily, and keep your form to hand if you have one.
Home Blood Tests for Children
We take blood from children aged 6 and over, for tests that are suitable for their age, such as our Children’s Health MOT (£160).
A parent or guardian must be present for anyone under 16. Some tests are for adults only, so please call us before booking a child’s appointment.

Call About a Child’s TestHome Blood Test Questions
Does a phlebotomist come to my home, or do I take the sample myself?
A trained phlebotomist comes to you and takes a sample from a vein in your arm. You don’t take the sample yourself.
Do I need a GP referral for a home blood test?
Not for a private test. You can choose a test and book a home visit yourself. For a GP-form blood draw, the form comes from the clinician who requested the tests.
How much does a home visit blood test cost?
For private tests in our standard Essex area, the home visit is included in the test price shown on each test page. A home blood draw for a GP or hospital form is £40 per visit. A travel surcharge may apply outside our standard area.
Can you take blood at home for my GP or hospital form?
Yes. We send the sample to the laboratory named on your form within 24 hours. Check that your surgery or hospital accepts a privately collected sample, and call us first if your request is electronic or marked urgent.
Which areas of Essex do you cover?
Our service area includes Billericay, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Basildon, Wickford, Stock, Ingatestone, Thurrock, Upminster, Maldon and Southend-on-Sea. If you live elsewhere in Essex, call 01277 652067 before booking.
When will I get my results?
It depends on the test, and the expected turnaround is shown on each test page. For GP and hospital forms, results go to the clinician who requested them.
Is this the same as NHS domiciliary phlebotomy?
No. NHS domiciliary phlebotomy is usually arranged by referral for housebound patients. Our home blood test service is private, and you book it directly.
Can you take blood from my child at home?
Yes, for children aged 6 and over and for tests suitable for their age. A parent or guardian must be present for anyone under 16. Please call before booking.
