Browse by health concern

You don't need to know the name of a test to get started. Pick the area you want to look into and you'll see the tests usually used to check it. Still unsure? Call 01277 652067 and we'll talk you through the options before you book. A blood test measures markers in your blood; it doesn't give a diagnosis on its own, so discuss your results with your GP or another qualified healthcare professional where appropriate.

Book your way

There are three ways to use Swift. You can choose and pay for your own private blood test, then have it taken at our clinic, a partner clinic or at home. If your GP or hospital has already given you a blood form, we simply take the sample and get it to their laboratory. And if you've bought a finger-prick kit elsewhere, we can collect the sample for you.

Home blood tests with a visiting phlebotomist

A home blood draw means a trained phlebotomist comes to your home or workplace, takes a venous blood sample from your arm and arranges for it to reach the laboratory. It isn't a postal finger-prick kit: the sample is taken for you, just as it would be in a clinic. We visit homes across Essex, Bromley and Surrey.

When a home visit helps

Useful if you're unwell, have limited mobility or can't take time off work. Children and nervous patients often find it easier at home too.

How booking works

Choose your test, select a home visit and pick a time. Weekday appointments start from 6am, which helps if you need to fast.

What happens on the day

Your phlebotomist confirms your details, then takes the sample with single-use equipment. Most visits take around 10 to 15 minutes.

Getting your sample to the lab

Each tube is labelled with your details at the time of collection and couriered to the laboratory the same day, so it arrives in good condition for analysis.

GP and hospital forms

Already have a request form from your GP, consultant or hospital? We take the sample at home and deliver it to the laboratory named on the form. Results go back to the clinician who requested them.

What a home visit costs

The home visit fee is included in the price of private tests. A home blood draw for a GP or hospital form, or collection for a kit bought elsewhere, costs £40. Full details are on our home phlebotomy services page.

Health MOTs and packages

An individual blood test measures one marker, or a small related group, and suits a specific question, such as checking your vitamin D or thyroid function. A health screening panel, often called a health MOT, measures many markers from one sample for a broader view of areas like general health, cholesterol, blood sugar, liver and kidney function, hormones and vitamins. Panels suit a routine check-up rather than one question. Each package page lists exactly what's included.

What happens after your blood sample is taken

The process is the same whether your blood is taken in clinic or during a home visit, and knowing each step can make the wait for results easier.

Turnaround depends on the test. Many results come back within a few days, some specialist tests take longer, and selected tests offer same-day turnaround. The expected time is shown on each test page before you book. A blood test on its own isn't a diagnosis, so please discuss your results with your GP or another qualified healthcare professional where appropriate.

Private blood test questions

Do I need a GP referral for a private blood test?
No. Most private blood tests can be booked directly online or by phone, without a GP referral. You choose the test, pay for it and receive the results yourself. If your GP or consultant has already given you a request form, we can take that sample too, and the results go back to the clinician who requested them.
How much does a private blood test cost?
It depends on the test. Single tests such as testosterone or vitamin D are listed from around £30 to £40, while health screening panels cost more. Clinic and home appointments start from £40, the home visit fee is included on private tests, and every price is shown before you pay. A home blood draw for a GP or hospital form costs £40.
Can I book a blood test online?
Yes. Choose your test, pick a clinic appointment or home visit, select a time and pay securely online. It usually takes a few minutes. For an urgent same-day appointment, call 01277 652067 or message us on WhatsApp on 07308 136364.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Same-day and next-day appointments are often available, and our clinic opens from 6am on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Availability depends on your location, so the booking page shows the next free slots. If it's urgent, call us so we can check today's availability.
Can someone come to my home to take blood?
Yes. Our phlebotomists visit homes and workplaces across Essex, Bromley and Surrey. They bring everything needed, take your sample and arrange for it to reach the laboratory the same day. The home visit fee is included on private tests.
What is home phlebotomy?
Phlebotomy is the medical term for taking blood from a vein. Home phlebotomy means a trained phlebotomist does this at your home instead of a clinic or hospital. It's different from a postal finger-prick kit, where you collect the sample yourself. Read more about our home phlebotomy service.
Can you take blood for a GP or hospital form?
Yes. We take the sample at home or in clinic and deliver it to the laboratory named on your form, for £40. Patients often use this when NHS appointments at Basildon Hospital, St Andrew's in Billericay or Brentwood Community Hospital are hard to get. Results go to the clinician who requested the test.
Is Swift Blood Tests the same as Swiftqueue?
No. Swiftqueue is the NHS booking system used by many hospitals and GP surgeries. Swift Blood Tests is an independent private service. If you can't get a Swiftqueue appointment, we can take the blood for your GP or hospital form at home, or you can book a private test with us directly.
Where is my nearest Swift Blood Tests clinic?
Our main clinic is at Unit 7 Whites Farm, Barleylands Road, Basildon SS15 4BG, on the Billericay border, and we work with partner clinics across the UK. Enter your postcode on our Find Your Nearest Clinic page to see the closest options, sorted by distance.
What areas do you cover for home visits?
We visit homes across Essex, including Billericay, Basildon, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Thurrock and Maldon, as well as Bromley and parts of Surrey. If you're not sure we cover your address, use the postcode checker above or call 01277 652067 and we'll confirm before you book.
How quickly will I receive my results?
It depends on the test. Many results come back within a few days, some specialist tests take longer, and selected tests offer same-day turnaround. The expected time is shown on each test page. Private results are sent to you securely; results from GP and hospital forms go to your surgery or consultant.
How do I choose the right blood test?
Start with a health concern above, or search for a test by name. Each test page explains what it measures and how to prepare. If you're still unsure, call us before booking. We can't diagnose symptoms, so if you're unwell or worried, please also speak to your GP or NHS 111.
What happens to my sample after collection?
Your tubes are labelled at the point of collection and sent to the appropriate laboratory the same day. The lab analyses the markers included in your test, and the results are returned securely to you, or to the clinician who requested them. Each step is explained in the section above.
Are my results confidential?
Yes. Your details and results are stored securely and shared only with you, or with the clinician named on your request form. We don't share your information with third parties without your consent. See our privacy policy.
Do I need to fast before a blood test?
Only for some tests. Fasting is usually needed for tests such as fasting glucose, and some hormones, such as testosterone, are best measured in the morning. Each test page lists any preparation. Our clinic opens from 6am on weekdays, which makes fasting easier.
Can you take blood from children or nervous patients?
Yes. We take blood from children aged 6 and over, with a parent or guardian present, and we specialise in needle-phobic patients. Tell us when you book and we'll allow extra time, in clinic or at home.
