A comprehensive iron blood test that combines iron studies, a Full Blood Count, selected nutritional markers and an inflammation marker in one panel.
A basic iron or ferritin test looks at one or two markers. Our Advanced Iron Blood Test goes further. It brings together the full set of iron studies, a Full Blood Count, three nutritional markers and an inflammation marker, so you get a broader view from one blood sample.
That breadth is the reason for the £120 price. Rather than booking separate tests, this comprehensive iron blood test puts stored iron, circulating iron, iron transport, blood cells, B12, folate, vitamin D and hs-CRP side by side, giving you and your healthcare professional more context to work with.
“Iron” and “ferritin” are often used as if they mean the same thing, but they measure different parts of how your body handles iron.
| Marker | What it gives information about |
|---|---|
| Ferritin | Stored iron |
| Serum iron | Iron circulating in your blood at the time of testing |
| Transferrin, TIBC and transferrin saturation | How iron is being transported and how available it is |
Each marker shows a different piece of the picture. Looking at several together can give more context than one marker on its own, which is why this panel includes the full set of iron studies.
Iron deficiency means your body is low on iron. Anaemia means a lower than expected level of haemoglobin or red blood cells. Iron deficiency is one possible cause of anaemia, but anaemia has other causes too.
Iron stores may fall before haemoglobin drops, so someone can have low iron stores without having anaemia.
The Full Blood Count gives information about blood cells and haemoglobin, while iron studies give information about iron stores and transport. Together they can provide information relevant to looking into iron status and anaemia.
Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside your symptoms and history.
Adds information about your blood cells and haemoglobin, giving context alongside the iron studies.
Nutrients involved in normal blood-cell production, adding further nutritional information to the panel.
An additional nutritional marker included in this panel, so you get your vitamin D level from the same sample.
An inflammation marker. Inflammation can affect some iron results, including ferritin, so hs-CRP may add context when your results are interpreted.
People often look into their iron status when:
Symptoms such as tiredness, low energy or heavy periods can have many causes and do not automatically mean iron deficiency. If your symptoms are new, getting worse or worrying you, speak to your GP.
Preparation requirements can depend on the markers being tested and the laboratory protocol. Follow the instructions provided with your booking.
If you take iron supplements, vitamins or prescribed medication, do not stop them unless advised by an appropriate healthcare professional. Let our team know what you take.

Both tests look at iron. The difference is how much else is included.
A broader panel combining iron studies with a Full Blood Count, selected nutritional markers and hs-CRP.
A simpler iron-profile option for a more focused iron assessment.

It measures iron studies (ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, transferrin and transferrin saturation), a Full Blood Count, vitamin B12 (active), folate (serum), vitamin D and high sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP).
Ferritin is a protein that stores iron. A ferritin result gives information about your body’s iron stores.
Ferritin gives information about stored iron, while serum iron shows the iron circulating in your blood at the time of testing. Transferrin, TIBC and transferrin saturation add information about how iron is transported and how available it is.
Ferritin, serum iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin, transferrin saturation, a Full Blood Count (FBC), vitamin B12 (active), folate (serum), vitamin D and high sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP).
A Full Blood Count gives information about your blood cells and haemoglobin. Alongside the iron studies, it adds blood-cell context that iron markers alone do not provide.
Iron studies give useful information about your iron stores and transport, which is relevant when looking into iron deficiency. Your results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional alongside your symptoms and history.
Blood results can contribute useful information, and this panel includes a Full Blood Count and iron studies. However, the results should not be treated as a standalone diagnosis of anaemia or its cause. A healthcare professional will look at your results together with your symptoms and history.
Yes, ferritin can be influenced by inflammation, so a normal or raised ferritin result does not always rule out iron deficiency. This panel includes hs-CRP, an inflammation marker, which may add context when your results are interpreted by a healthcare professional.
Preparation requirements can depend on the markers being tested and the laboratory protocol. Please follow the instructions provided with your booking, or call our team on 01277 652067 if you are unsure.
Supplements can affect some results. Do not stop iron supplements, vitamins or prescribed medication unless advised by an appropriate healthcare professional. Let our team know what you take so it can be considered with your results.

“Great service. I’m not the best with needles, however, Jo made me feel comfortable and at ease which made the whole process much more tolerable. 5 stars from me.
