The STI and Viral Hepatitis Blood Test is a comprehensive blood screening designed to detect key sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis through targeted antigen and antibody testing. This panel includes tests for HIV 1 & 2 (detecting both antibodies and p24 antigen for earlier identification), syphilis (antibodies to Treponema pallidum), hepatitis B (surface antigen for active infection), and hepatitis C (antibodies indicating exposure). These infections can lead to severe health issues if untreated, such as chronic liver disease, organ damage, and increased cancer risk, but early detection allows for effective management and prevention of complications.

Key Test Components

HIV 1 & 2 Test (Antigen/Antibody)
  • Fourth-generation HIV test detects both HIV antibodies (produced by your immune system) and p24 antigen (part of the virus itself), enabling earlier detection than older tests.
  • Blood test detecting antibodies to Treponema pallidum bacteria causing syphilis. Syphilis progresses through stages if untreated: primary (painless sore/chancre), secondary (rash, flu-like symptoms), latent (no symptoms), and tertiary (serious organ damage including brain, heart, and nerves).
  • Detects active hepatitis B virus infection. Hepatitis B is a serious liver infection that can become chronic, leading to cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer.
  • Screens for hepatitis C virus exposure. Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that commonly becomes chronic and causes progressive liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
