What are circulating tumour cells (CTCs)?

Circulating tumour cells are cells that have broken away from a solid tumour and entered the bloodstream. They are found in the blood of many people with certain cancers, but not in the blood of people without cancer.

For decades, detecting CTCs was practically impossible because they are so rare. Newer isolation techniques such as the one used by TruCheck have made routine CTC-based screening possible from a standard blood sample.

Is TruCheck a liquid biopsy?

What TruCheck does not detect
